The Integration of Abiding: Feeling, Thinking, Doing

All the aspects of our lives, every part of us (and all the parts within us) are integrated in this abiding in the love of Jesus

It is so integrative that Jesus tells us to “abide in his love”. Our head and heart (as it were), our thoughts and feelings, our being and doing are integrated into the all encompassing “abiding in his love” (John 15:9).

  • Feeling: We are not just invited to “feel his love”, though sometimes we might be overwhelmed and undone by his love.
  • Thinking: We are not just invited to “know his love”, though sometimes remembering the information about his love is important.
  • Acting: We are not just invited to “act from his love”, though loving others is an extension and proof of Jesus’ love in us.

The feeling, the knowing, and the acting all live within the abiding in Jesus’ love, making it our home—our abode.

All the aspects of our lives, every part of us (and all the parts within us) are integrated in this abiding in the love of Jesus—the feeling, the knowing, the living.

When Jesus’ love is our home, our abode in which we abide, then the feeling, knowing, and living will be integrated in us, through him, according to his love.
