Is social/traditional media our collective hyperactive/traumatized nervous system?
TV, talks shows, Op-Eds, and especially social media, are shrinking our windows of tolerance, passing on and amplifying messages of crisis and calamity, dampening signals of connection and security, all causing us to perceive everything as threat and to respond according.
Our collective nervous system is trained to anticipate conflict and crisis modeled on our experience of the (algorithm created) past. Maybe we are becoming more susceptible to shame because of it.
We live in a present—curated by algorithms and advertisements—where we expect threat and respond aggressively, creating the reality that we constant fear.
Silence…solitude…wasting time…off-line…embodied connections…this is how we will retrain our social nervous system toward love, hope, and trust.
